Automatic Watches I am here to give some tips and recommendation on how to buy an automatic watch. There are many reasons why one would consider purchasing an automatic watch; my personal reason is because I enjoy a fine time piece that will last for a very long time. I also love the concept of it not need battery and I love the ticking sound that it makes. Put all aside, I adore the mechanical movement and see the second hand sweeping through. I fell in love with automatic watches ever since I saw my dad’s Seiko dive master automatic watch. I remember the first time I learned about that it didn’t require a battery to operate I was amazed and interested in how that’s possible. I am sure we all have our stories as to why we adore automatic watches.
When purchasing an automatic watch there are many brands to select from and I will name a few: Seiko, Tag Heuer, Omega, Hublot Big Bang, Cartier, Invicta, Rolex, Orient, Timex, Zenith, Oris, Hamilton and etc……….
The first thing you will need to decide is how much you are willing to dish out for your new watch. If the price range is around $100-300 then my personal recommendation would be Invicta. Invicta makes some really nice automatic watches for its price. Invicta usually uses either Japanese movement (miyota) or Swiss movement. My understanding is that the Japanese movement is extremely reliable and will provide years and years of service. Typically if you get the Japanese movement by Invicta the cost is less (roughly $120 USD) it’s Swiss counter part will cost you couple of more benjamins. I personally went for the Japanese movement since it was the only one offered at Costco Wholesale.
If your price range is around $1000- $1500 then my recommendations would be either Tag Heur or Omega. The two watches are pretty close in terms of quality and reliability. If purchasing Omega and durability is of consideration then I would go with the Omega Sea Mater (James Bond watch) and it has an excellent 23 jewel swiss movement. If you want to go for the classic Omega look then Omega classic would be your pick. As far as Tag Heuer goes, if durability is of consideration then Tag Heuser Honda F1 watch will be my pick Tag Heuer F1 watch comes with a durable rubber band and you can bang the watch around and never experience any problems. My other favorites made by Tag Heuer would be the Ayrton Senna series, excellent watch.
I personally can’t afford anything beyond $1500 so I am going to quit here, I hope this information has helped you.
